To build, you must destroy

We all love a transformation story.

The awkward teen gets their braces off.

The overweight midlifer sheds 100+ lbs.

The nerd with glasses gets the girl.

These themes work well in Hollywood because the outward appearances are drastically different. Cinderella turning from a pumpkin to a princess.

But real life ain’t like that.

I have been diving into personal development and behavior change for the past 15 years or so.

One thing I have learned…changes don’t stick unless the inner work is done as well.

It’s easy to applaud a weight loss story as they throw their plus sized clothes in the trash. But if they don’t address the mental landscape that fostered the weight gain in the first place…odds are it gets piled back on in due time.

2024 is a year of huge personal change for me and my wife.

Moving from Japan to the USA.

Welcoming our first baby in November.

Me betting on myself as an entrepreneur.

None of these new adventures are possible if we cling to a dated mentality of comfort and complacency.

Sometimes the forest needs to burn to allow the saplings to spring forth.
